They began trading in November 2002 and their turnover in their first year was £56K. Chem-Dry Countywide have a 2-3 year business plan in place, which included the recent purchase of a new territory and they hope this will result in a significant increase in turnover to £150,000.
David Hunt from Castle Chem-Dry based in Edinburgh purchased an existing Chem-Dry business in April 2002 after serving as a police officer for 14 years. Like most franchisees he started from a home base and his 100% commitment to building a balanced business was justly rewarded in only his second year of trading, when he achieved a £100K turnover. He now works from business premises and employs three technicians and an administrator.
John Murphy, Chem-Dry Complete (previously Chem-Dry Modern) joined Chem-Dry in July 2003 after working for London Underground. He achieved nearly £50K turnover in his first year and as part of his growth plan he added another franchise licence in September 2004 and moved the business to a newly leased unit. In 2007 Chem-Dry Complete and Chem-Dry Modern merged under one banner to provide a united service covering the regions of Bedfordshire & North London. There are further plans to expand in 2008.
